In accordance with the City of Peoria’s commitment to sustainability, Peoria Sports Complex utilizes a recycling program. Over 30 easily identifiable blue recycling containers are available throughout the facility. Recyclable items include plastic, cardboard, paper, aluminum, steel, tin and glass. City of Peoria’s Solid Waste department collects the compacted recyclable materials and the annual total recycled at Peoria Sports Complex is approximately 20 tons.
Peoria Sports Complex’s recent clubhouse renovations, designed by Populous with DFDG, have achieved LEED Gold Certification. The renovations to the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres clubhouses were designed to be sustainable and efficient facilities. The clubhouses will save more than 320,000 gallons of water and 1,126,000 kWh of electricity per year. In addition, 36% of building materials were recycled and the design process made use of locally sourced materials and Low VOC paints and sealants.
Additionally, a solar rooftop and carport system is installed at the Seattle Mariners clubhouse. Healthy Planet Partners, LLC (HPP) developed and financed the project with partner Kyocera Solar, which provided engineering and project management support. Sky Engineering and Construction Inc. built the system using Kyocera’s high-efficiency solar modules. This 345kW solar array will generate approximately 529MWh of clean electricity annually. The project will also eliminate approximately 365 metric tons of CO2 emissions, which is the environmental equivalent of powering more than thirty-three homes for one year or burning more than 391,722 pounds of coal.
Peoria Sports Complex is committed to cost effective green practices and environmental stewardship through responsible energy use, waste reduction, recycling and partnerships.
